Home Sweet Gluten Free Home – Gluten Free Summer Picnic

Spread the love

The pressure is high to have a great picnic everyone will enjoy. Now that my son Graham has gluten sensitivity I decided to create a meal that focuses around being gluten free without anyone noticing the food is gluten free!

Serve Simple Starters

Your goal is to welcome guests with some nibbles that are not too messy and won’t fill them up. A basic chips and dip will please everyone, even the little kiddos!

Chips and Sweet Onion Dip

  • 1 Tbsp olive oil
  • 2 Vidalia onions chopped fine
  • Coarse salt
  • Ground pepper
  • 1 c reduced-fat sour cream
  • 2 oz reduced-fat cream cheese block room temp
  • 1½ tsp white wine vinegar
  • ¼ c fine chopped chives
  • GF potato chips

  1. Heat oil over medium heat; add onions with salt and pepper; cook golden brown 12-15 minutes; cool to room temp.
  2. Combine all ingredients; chill until thickened; 1 hour or up to 2 days
  3. Serve with GF chips

What to Pour

Most people want some kind of refreshing beverage when they attend a picnic. Serve bottled water and a pitcher of fresh squeezed lemonade. My gluten free honey lemonade recipe is perfect for people with allergies!

Honey Lemonade

4 cups water

1/3-1/2 c local honey

1 c fresh squeezed lemon juice

  1. In medium to large pot bring water to a boil
  2. Turn heat off and whisk in honey until it dissolves
  3. Add lemon juice to pot and stir; cool to room temp; refrigerate or serve over ice

Main Dish

Do something simple and wallet-friendly.

Grilled hotdogs is the perfect picnic dish – and my son Graham loves them! Be sure to get gluten free hotdogs. Pair them with Gluten Free Nation gluten free hotdog buns.
